The early morning tornado on Tuesday impacted many in our Nashville community. While NSS did not sustain any damage, some of our students, staff, and alumni have damage to their homes and cars. Shortly after the tornado rolled through, the NSS Slack group came alive with students and alumni checking in on each other. By the time daylight arrived, our community was asking how they could help.

There are over 14,000 immigrants in Davidson County and 2,000 - 3,000 of them are ready to become a naturalized citizen of the United States, but many of them are intimidated by the process. Our Front-end Web Design/Development cohort took on the challenge presented by the Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) to create an app to connect immigrants to mentors to help them through the naturalization process.

It’s incredible to me that we just graduated our 1000th graduate from Nashville Software School. We graduated number 1000, and a whole bunch more, last Friday, February 14 (yes, that’s right, Valentine’s Day!). We started Valentine’s Day with 995 graduates, by 1 pm we were up to 1036 graduates.

We were humbled to hear that Nashville Software School (NSS) was named a finalist in the Nashville Business Journal’s Best in Business 2020 - Non-profit - Small category and are honored to be a finalist alongside the Adventure Science Center and Musicians On Call. In less than two months we’ll graduate our 1,000th graduate, something our founder John Wark admits he never imagined back in 2012 when NSS opened its doors as one of the first coding bootcamps in the country.
