Why Students Choose NSS for Web + Software Development

Students from all different walks of life come to Nashville Software School (NSS) to gain the skills they need to start a career in tech! Their reasons for choosing NSS are plentiful, as are their options for how to gain new tech skills. So when someone chooses NSS, we do not take their decision lightly. Here is what our alumni had to say shortly after graduating about why they chose NSS.

Everything you need to know to land your first job.

I chose NSS because I was looking for a school that would teach me everything I need to know to land my first job. Also, I knew a handful of people who were either current students or alumni and all of them are really thriving in this industry right now.”

- Jordan Smith, Part-time Web Development Evening 13

Because of the mission, non-profit status, and engagement with the tech community.

I chose this school because of its mission, [non-profit] status, engagement with the tech community, and commitment to training folks from underrepresented communities for careers in tech. I chose to become a developer because it's a path where I can flex my curiosity and creative thinking while collaborating with others to build something.”

- Kelly Kessler, Full-Time Web Development Cohort 49

Quality developers are made here.

I knew I had to step up my game from the self-taught curriculum I was following, and in all my research, NSS was far and away the school that cared the most for what they could help me become. Everyone here, without exception, has bent over backwards to see that I get every opportunity and tool to succeed that they could possibly give me. Seeing the professional reception NSS grads have gotten in my interviews, it's clear - we make quality devs here.”

- Joel Beckum, Full-time Web Development Cohort 49

The community aspect of NSS.

When the concert industry shut down in 2020, I figured out quickly that I wanted to get into software, but I didn't know how. I tried a few different paths, and it took almost a year of looking before I settled on the Web Development bootcamp. I loved the community aspect of NSS and the fact that so many alumni come back. I really saw a future with NSS, not just a small venture.”

- Jalon Duncan, Full-time Web Development Cohort 49

Great support system.

I only heard great things. About seven of my friends graduated from NSS. I asked them plenty of questions, went to an open house and asked plenty more. It felt hands-on and that you can still connect with others even after you finish. Great support system.”

- Tatiana Johnson, Part-time Web Development Evening 15

They want to see you succeed.

I had been interested in doing a coding bootcamp for several years, but there were so many, it was very hard to choose. When the pandemic happened and NSS went remote I knew I had to jump on the opportunity. I have several friends who went through NSS and have been successful ever since they graduated. But the biggest selling point was how much they help post graduation to make sure you get a job. They don't want to just teach you, they want you to succeed in every aspect of the tech world.”

- Chris Meffley, Part-time Web Development Evening 14

A beacon of light.

NSS was a beacon of light for me as I neared the end of my 15 year long career as a restaurant manager. I loved what I was doing but knew that it was time for me to move on. I have always loved new tech and how it works so after having NSS recommended to me by a handful of close friends and colleagues I decided I'd throw my name in the hat. The moment I got accepted I had this rush of relief, excitement and determination to put my all into what I had been told and already understood was a life changing opportunity. I'm so glad I attended NSS's 6 month C# bootcamp and am so happy with my new career path and life. Thank you to everyone who has helped create such a life changing program at NSS.”

- Peter Racine Jr., Full-time Web Development Cohort 49

Reputation is second to none.

Being a developer is something I always wanted to do! I went to university and graduated in an unrelated field. I kind of drifted through life post graduation and was not comfortable with where I was in life. I was talking to some colleagues at different points and NSS came up in conversations over and over and over. I did quite a bit of research and the reputation that NSS carries is honestly second to none. So, I made the decision to apply and that was right when corona really started to take off. In retrospect, I wish I had done it sooner!”

- Bailey Dennis, Web Development Cohort Evening 13
