Engida Amare of Part-time Data Analytics Cohort 4 at Nashville Software SchoolBefore he was a member of the Part-time Data Analytics Cohort 4 at Nashville Software School (NSS), Engida Amare worked as a Salesforce data specialist at a non-profit organization in Tennessee. “[Working there] drove me into a strong desire to know more about data and meta-data,” he explains. “I grew up in a third-world where data and/or information was not easily accessible to analyze and further dug into.”

Egida says that job “really opened a door to emphasize on the informed-decision.”

I am traversing towards my goal, hoping to reach my destiny soon.

What was the topic of your capstone and how did you choose it?

“My aim was to come up with a certain conclusion on how airlines' on-time-performance (OTP) was affected by the pandemic. Airlines are ranked according to various benchmarks, like their schedule, their connectivity, their passenger handling, their hospitality, their compensation offer, in time-of-flight irregularity, but the best measuring factor for their [success is] on-time-performance (OTP). As we all know, almost all airlines hibernated during the COVID time. They lost a huge revenue, profit and their mass task force turned into unemployment. Everything looked negative. Due to time constraints and the vastness of the scope, I was not able to deal with each and every factor in my Capstone, that is why the scope focuses only on the impact on OTP. I had collected four months of data (each is big data, I can say,) and each for a full month of records (August 2019, February 2020, August 2020, February 2021). The raw data was extracted from the official web of the US Department of Transportation (DOT), two before COVID and two during the COVID time.”

What advice would you give to current or incoming NSS Data students?

“Don't give up on down times.”

Why did you choose to attend NSS?

“For it's reputation.”

What was your favorite part of your NSS experience?

“The wonderful team and wonderful instructors and wonderful NSS community!”

What roadblocks did you encounter along the way?

“Sometimes a feeling of being behind.”
