We are excited to announce that NSS is participating for the first time in The Big Payback, a 24-hour giving event hosted by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Our goal is to raise $25,000 this year, which will fund 10 scholarships for deserving students.

In 2012, we looked at the shortage of tech talent in Nashville and made a few bold declarations. We believed we had motivated individuals in Nashville with the talent to do this work, with the aptitude and desire to learn technology, and who would pursue a career in the field if offered a chance.

We believed that home-grown talent was a critical missing piece to filling Nashville’s tech talent gap. Doing so would require providing opportunities to women, people of color, veterans and other groups underrepresented in tech careers.

We believed all of that then, and we believe it even more now. And today, we have proof. Since our founding, we’ve graduated 1,400 job-ready adults and placed 90% or more into tech jobs. We’ve worked with over 300 local employers. This March, as the economy is only beginning to recover from COVID-19, we had the highest number of graduates hired in a single month in our school's history.

But there is still work to do. The gap remains, but we have the tools and resources to bring sustainable change to Nashville’s tech talent landscape.
