NSS announces the launch of Introduction to Agentic AI Tools for Developers, our new continuing education course for our software development Seekers as part of the ProTech program.
We chose to create Introduction to Agentic AI Tools for Developers in direct response to the growing presence of AI across the tech landscape, and the strong interest we’ve heard from both our current Seekers and working alumni. Many of our Seekers have told us they’re eager to better understand how AI tools work and how to integrate them into their projects. At the same time, our alumni who are now working in the field report that AI is becoming an increasingly important part of their day-to-day roles. This course is designed to meet that demand by helping our software development Seekers build foundational knowledge of agentic AI systems and explore practical ways to use them in modern software development.
This three-week part-time course gives students practical experience using agentic AI tools in real-world coding environments. Through a series of guided activities and collaborative projects, participants will build a strong foundation in using large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, context management, and AI-assisted software development. By the end of the course, learners will have built and refined applications using agentic AI, developed best practices for working with AI in professional settings, and explored how these tools can impact productivity, code quality, and iterative development workflows.
Learners will be introduced to RooCode and RooFlow, AI tools integrated with Visual Studio Code that we will set up to leverage the Gemini language model for development assistance. While these specific tools are used throughout the course, the primary goal is to help learners develop general, transferable skills for using AI effectively in software development. These skills will apply across a wide range of platforms and technologies.
By the end of the course, you’ll:
The first cohort is expected to start on August 26, 2025 and will meet twice per week over Zoom, with each session lasting 2 hours. Students should also expect to spend several hours outside of class working on their capstone projects in the final week.
The initial cohorts of the Introduction to Agentic AI Tools for DevelopersI course will be free to qualified students.
For the first cohort, we are targeting NSS Software Development Seekers (graduates of our full-time and part-time Web Developer and Software Engineering Bootcamps who are still searching for their first tech role). After the first cohort, we will open the program to other qualified applicants, including tech professionals who have been laid off and looking to acquire new skills to help them restart their careers and recent graduates of other skills credentialing programs (e.g. certificate from another bootcamp, relevant college or university degrees, etc.).
Eligible NSS Seekers will receive an email soon with details on the class schedule for the first session, and how to enroll. Keep an eye on your inbox for this opportunity to enhance your skill set and boost your job search.
We will announce how those laid off from tech positions or those with relevant credentials still searching for a first position can connect with us to express interest in the program soon. For now, you can sign up for our ProTech mailing list below to be notified when this course (and others) open for applications.
This course is part of our commitment to support the Nashville tech community.
