From Tech Support to Developer | Graduate Spotlight

Before beginning her journey at Nashville Software School (NSS), Mary Beth Hunter was working as a Distance Learning Technician for the University of Mississippi. “This role allowed me to bridge the gap between my love of learning in higher education and technology,” she shares. “These industries are as intertwined as ever with the global pandemic, and this past year has allowed us to adapt to and grow with the challenges presented to distance learning and remote work.”

Why did you choose to attend NSS?

“I chose to attend NSS because I’ve always been interested in code. I tried many times to freeCodeCamp myself but never had the structure or support that I ultimately got out of NSS to be successful. A friend of mine attended NSS as well and I saw what it did for him and his career.”

What was your favorite capstone project and what about it made it your favorite?

“My front-end capstone (Luna Yogi) was my favorite because it challenged me in so many ways. I had so many ideas and was able to incorporate all of them into a functioning yoga, meditation, and affirmation app with individual user accounts so all of the above content could be saved.”

​​What advice would you give to current or incoming NSS Students? 

“Do it!!! It’s a long and hard commitment but it’s been so incredibly worth it professionally and personally for me. I have made lifelong friends and connections, as well as completely changed careers, all thanks to NSS.”
