Discovering A Career | Graduate Spotlight

Written by Jessica Grande | Jan 20, 2022

Before Nashville Software School, Zachary Rhoden (who goes by Blake), worked at Vanderbilt Medical Center as anelectronic imaging tech. “It wasn’t something I could really make a career out of,” he recalls in his podcast. Having a family member who worked as a programmer, Blake was introduced to Nashville Software School and he decided it was the right choice for him.

I've been living in Nashville for most of my life and I'm excited to begin my career here as well.

What was your favorite capstone project and what about it made it your favorite?

“I enjoyed the back-end capstone because I managed to actually expand on my front-end capstone and connect the two client sides with one server.”

What advice would you give to current or incoming NSS Web Development students?

“Don't hunker down on a problem. Ask your classmates or instructors. It's easier that way, and you'll learn more.”

What roadblocks did you encounter along the way?

“My main roadblock was my desire to fix my bugs on my own, without help. Except that needed to be fixed, so eventually I actually started asking questions and learning.”
