A New Gig  | Graduate Spotlight

As a freelance musician, Joel Gage of Full-time Web Development Cohort 47 spent 10 years traveling across the U.S. as well as internationally. When live events came to a halt in 2020, Joel found himself reflecting on ways he could grow and started looking into the world of software development. After talking with friends who had attended Nashville Software School (NSS), he decided to apply. 

What was your favorite capstone project and what about it made it your favorite?

“My capstone called Gig Track. I loved the chance to put together all that we had learned over the course of the class into one full-stack application. This application also deals directly with a problem I encounter in my own life as a working musician. I will definitely find a lot of use out of the app and I believe fellow musicians will too!” 

What advice would you give to current or incoming NSS Web Development students?

“Be thinking of capstone ideas now. Think about a problem you'd like to solve or a process you can streamline. Relax and don't panic!”

What was your favorite part of your NSS experience?

“The comradery among the students as well as the personal investment of the teachers. The class environment is such a supportive one. I really felt that my fellow students and teachers wanted to see me succeed.”
