Before attending Nashville Software School (NSS), Cheo Roman of Web Development Cohort 46 had been programming as a hobby on and off for years. “I started with C++ in high school and dabbled with a bit of other languages since then,” he remembers. After graduating college, he continued learning through programming courses at a local community college and state school. “Doing so taught me to plan, build, and automate tools which eased my workload in the transportation/logistics/freight shipping industries,” he explains. It was not until Cheo lost his job in December of 2020 that he decided to return to his former hobby and enrolled at NSS.
NSS reinforced my skill set and taught me to use the latest technologies.
What was your favorite capstone project and why?
“Final capstone, got to plan, code, host a working full-stack project.”
What advice would you give to current or incoming NSS Web Development students?
“If you have an idea what industries you would like to work in, it's not a bad idea to make your projects geared toward that industry.”
What roadblocks did you encounter along the way?
“Whether virtual classroom or not, you should also work on people skills.”

Since graduating, Cheo likes to spend his free time catching up on (computational) linguistics, exploring, and volunteering, particularly with the homeless, while he searches for his first job in web development!
